Start a business

Starting a business is a big and exciting step — but it can also feel overwhelming. At Mika Ekonomi, we support you all the way, from idea to completed registration and a functioning financial structure.

We know the common pitfalls, what authorities require, and how to create the right conditions for success — whether you are a craftsman, consultant, hairdresser, or photographer.

Choose the right business structure – Sole trader or limited company

Sole trader:

✔ Easiest to start

✔ Lower administrative requirements

✔ You are personally liable for the company’s debts

✔ Often suitable for smaller turnover or side businesses

Limited company:

✔ Limited personal liability

✔ You can take salary and dividends

✔ Better credibility with banks and customers

✔ Requires share capital of at least SEK 25,000

✔ Suitable if you plan to grow, hire employees, or raise capital

We help you analyze what suits you best — and establish the right company structure from the start.

Registration – What must you register?

When starting a business, you must:

✔ Register the company with the Swedish Companies Registration Office (applies to limited companies and certain sole traders)

✔ Register for F-tax with the Swedish Tax Agency

✔ Register for VAT (if you sell VAT-liable goods/services)

✔ Register as an employer (if you will have employees)

We handle all contact with authorities for you — correctly, quickly, and digitally. You avoid dealing with forms, waiting times, and registration errors.

F-tax – What does it mean?

F-tax means that you are responsible for paying your preliminary tax and social security contributions yourself. It is required in order to invoice customers. Without F-tax approval, clients are often unwilling to hire you.

We help you:

    •    Submit the correct application to the Swedish Tax Agency

    •    Calculate preliminary tax

    •    Obtain approval as quickly as possible

VAT – When do you need to register?

If you sell goods or services subject to VAT, you must register for VAT with the Swedish Tax Agency. You will then receive a VAT registration number and must begin reporting VAT on invoices and in VAT returns.

We help you understand:

    •    Which VAT rate to use (6%, 12%, 25%)

    •    How to handle VAT on purchases

    •    How often to report (monthly, quarterly, annually)

    •    How to record VAT correctly from the beginning

Start with the right structure – avoid problems later

Many newly started businesses encounter problems later because they did not establish proper structure from the beginning.

We help you:

✔ Choose the right bookkeeping system

✔ Set up a chart of accounts adapted to your business

✔ Create routines for receipt management, invoicing, and year-end closing

✔ Understand deductible expenses and digital receipt storage

We help you avoid common beginner mistakes — and build a stable foundation for your business.
